Little People With Feathers

So, just saw music video that I was peripherally involved in (cut out of the final version) and I’m sitting here seething. I tried, while they were shooting, to help. “Um… don’t you want to separate them a bit from the background? I don’t know, move the camera back, get more than just a medium shot… you know, something interesting?” Although, I was “into my cups” as Game of Thrones says, and so I probably wasn’t very friendly about the whole thing. Actually, I’m pretty sure I was kind of obnoxious, in a “I know what I’m doing, why don’t you?” kind of way. Yeah, should have stepped that back. But my friends were involved, I was involved, and I wanted it to look good for those on-screen and be a good end product for wherever it ended up. (Apparently sometimes I take myself and my work too seriously. Pfa.) Anyway… the final piece? UG!!! Maybe I’ve been doing too much aftereffects work lately, and I’m bit over-confident of my motion-graphic skills… but really? Ok, I get that you want to put some overlay over the whole thing to make it look “aged” but at least change the ‘tea-stained paper’ with your cuts!! You just slammed it over the whole thing! I did that , too… when I was in highschool. Making a video about lawn gnomes stalking people. Even if you only bought one image from shutterstock, rotate the damn thing! Zoom in on it! Something! I think because it’s such a simple fix, it drives me CRAZY. Fine, the whole thing is an okay montage of interesting looking people…. you did a good job with the footage you had, even though (I know) you could have gotten better footage. Maybe adjusting the overlay and the deviating from the standard “film look” effect in FCP wouldn’t really have changed the overall end result (at least the titles weren’t with the default text). But good god man. You could have tried.

Ug. I’m awful. Please, just get me away from my aftereffects. It gets into my head.
